should I grab this rough 1979 446 need advice

Got a chance to pick up a rough-running 1979 446 with a plow blade, tire chains, and a busted mower deck (not interested in the deck). Seller's asking $500. It's got a replacement Onan 20hp in it.


Only issue is the front PTO locks up after it runs for a while. I'm still learning the ropes with my recent 6018, so I need to read up more on these 446s. No idea what kind of time and cash I might be getting into on this one.


Anyone here own or worked on one? Is it worth messing with for $500, or should I keep looking?

From what I know, the Onan engines are usually tough, but parts can be pricey.

Is it worth it though? For $500, if you're willing to dive into repairs, it could be a great project and you'll end up with a very capable tractor for the money. However, if you need it running perfectly without much fuss right away, it might be quite costly

It sounds like a good deal if you're up for a project, PTO issue might be fixable with some time and if you enjoy learning, it could be worth it for $500
